Machame Route - from £995 per person 7 days or £1095 per person 8 days
The Machame Route is the second most popular and the most beautiful route to reach Uhuru Peak. With a gradual ascent through the forest; you emerge to see wide views of the moorland on Shira plateau, Kibo, Western Breach and the different kinds of vegetation along the way. By trekking high and sleeping low, the Machame route gives you the best opportunity for your body to acclimatize. All nights during the expedition are spent in well equipped tents.

Duration: 7 DAYS - 6 NIGHTS - This is based on the first day being the arrival in the country. Therefore, it is subject to change if it is part of a combined tour or more time is required to transfer from an airport further away.
Day 1 Arrival
Pick up from the airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi.
Dinner and overnight in the hotel at Moshi.
DAY 2 Moshi - Machame Gate - Machame Camp
Drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Machame. After the registration and payment formalities we start the first section of the climb through the forest to Machame Campsite at 10,000ft/3000m for overnight camp. This takes 5 to 7 hours. Overnight Machame camp.
DAY 3 Machame Camp - Shira Camp
Following the steep ridge and across heath and moorland to "picnic rock" and the Shira plateau, onto Shira Campsite at 12,500ft/3800m. During this day of trekking you will be able to see the astonishing views Kilimanjaro can offer as you will be out of the Forest zone, this walk will take you 5 to 7 hours. Overnight at Shira camp.
DAY 4 Shira Camp - Barranco Camp
Heading towards Kibo you will cross a broad valley and climb to a ridge crest, crossing scree slopes and a river valley to reach Barranco Campsite at 13,000ft/3900m. This will again be 5 to 7 hours of trekking. Overnight at Barranco camp.
DAY 5 Barranco Camp - Barafu Camp
This day will take you across the floor of the Great Barranco Valley, up the Barranco Wall to the Karanga river - the last water point on this route. There is a steep climb over rocky slabs to Barafu Campsite at 15,500ft/4600m. This day is slightly longer, taking between 8 to 9 hours. Overnight at Barafu camp.
DAY 6 Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak (Summit) - Mweka Camp
It's an early start for the day of the summit trek to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19340ft/5895m. This will take up to 6 to 7 hours. You will descend via Barafu Campsite through the forest to Mweka Campsite at 10,000ft/3000m for overnight camping. This will take between 5 to 7 hours. Overnight at Mweka Camp.
DAY 7 Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate
Continued descent through the forest to the park gate at Mweka gate which takes 3 to 4 hours. Here you will collect you certificate fo conquering this Africa Giant before your deserved restful transfer back to your Hotel at moshi.
This is then the end of your trek before either starting your Wildlife Safari and/or Beach Holidays or Transferring to the airport for your flight home.
8 DAYS 7 NIGHTS - based on the first day being the arrival in the country. Therefore this is subject to change if the trek is part of a combined tour or you are transferring from an airport further away.
This itinerary allows for one extra day for acclimatization whereby you will stay at Karanga Camp on day 5 rather than Barafu Camp. This means 3/4 hours of trekking during day 5 rather than 8/9 hours.
